అథ షట్చత్త్వారింశస్సర్గః||

హతాన్ మంత్రిసుతాన్ బుద్ధ్వా వానరేణ మహాత్మనా|
రావణః సంవృతాకారః చకార మతిముత్తమామ్||1||

స|| మహాత్మనా వానరేణ మంత్రిసుతాన్ హతాన్ (ఇతి) బుద్ధ్వా రావణః సంవృతాకారః ఉత్తమామ్ మతిం చకార||

Ravana knowing that the minister's sons have been killed by the great Vanara, concealing his agony , applied his mind.

స విరూపాక్షయూపాక్షౌ దుర్ధరం చైవ రాక్షసమ్ |
ప్రఘసం భాసకర్ణం చ పంచ సేనాగ్ర నాయకాన్||2||
సందిదేశ దశగ్రీవో వీరాన్నయవిశారదాన్ |
హనుమద్గ్రహణా వ్యగ్రాన్ వాయువేగసమాన్యుధి||3||

స|| సః దశగ్రీవః వీరాన్ నయవిశారదాన్ రాక్షసాం విరూపాక్ష యుపాక్షౌ ప్రఘసం భాసకర్ణం చ దుర్ధరం చ పంచసేనాగ్రనాయకాన్ యుధి వాయువేగ సమాన్ హనుమాన్ గ్రహణావ్యగ్రాన్ సందిదేశ||

The Ten-headed one commanded the five army generals Virupaksha, Yupaksha, Praghasa, Bhasakarna and Durdhara who are warriors skilled in statecraft, to capture in the battle Hanuman who equals wind god in speed

యాత సేనాగ్రగాః సర్వే మహాబలపరిగ్రహాః|
సవాజిరథమాతంగాః స కపిః శాస్యతామితి||4||
యతైశ్చ ఖలు భావ్యం స్యాత్తమాసాద్య వనాలయమ్|
కర్మ చాపి సమాధేయం దేశకాలవిరోధినమ్||5||
న హ్యహం తం కపిం మన్యే కర్మణా ప్రతితర్కయన్|
సర్వధా తన్మహద్భూతం మహాబలపరిగ్రహమ్||6||

స|| సేనాగ్రగాః సర్వే మహాబలపరిగ్రహాః సవాజిరథమాతంగాః స కపిః శాస్యతాం ఇతి ||తం వనాలయం ఆసాద్య యత్నైః చ భావ్యం దేశకాలవిరోధినం కర్మచాపి సమాధేయం|| అహం కర్మణా ప్రతితర్కయన్ తం కపిం న మన్యే | సర్వథా మహత్ భూతం మహాబలపరిగ్రహం ||

"Oh Army Generals ! All of you accompanied by large army along with horses, elephants, and chariots punish the Vanara. Approaching the forest dweller, he should be engaged with all efforts which are not against the time and place and even actions done by him. Judging by the actions, I do not think he is a Vanara. That great being is endowed with great strength".

భవేదింద్రేణ వా సృష్టమస్మదర్థం తపోబలాత్|
సనాగయక్షగంధర్వా దేవాసురమహర్షయః||7||
యుష్మాభి స్సహితైః సర్వేర్మయా సహ వినిర్జితాః|
తైరవశ్యం విధాతవ్యం వ్యళీకం కించిదేవ నః||8||
తదేవ నాత్ర సందేహః ప్రసహ్యా పరిగృహ్యతామ్|
సవాజిరథమాతంగాః స కపిః శాస్యతామితి||
నావమాన్యో భవద్భిశ్చ హరిర్ధీరపరాక్రమః||9||

స|| అస్మదర్థం తపోబలాత్ ఇంద్రేణ స నాగయక్ష గంధర్వా దేవాసుర మహర్షయః సృష్ఠం వా||యుష్మాభిః సహ తైః సర్వైః మయా వినిర్జితాః| అవశ్యం తైః కించిదేవ వ్యళీకం విధాతవ్యం || తదేవ అత్ర సందేహః న | ప్రసహ్య పరిగృహ్యతాం | ధీరపరిక్రమః హరిః భవద్భిః న అవమాన్యః చ||

' For us he might have been created by Indra along with Naga Yaksha Gandharva Devas or asuras or Maharshis. With your help I have defeated them all. Certainly even a little harm should be done. There is no doubt. He may be captured with force. The warrior of heroic strength should not be insulted '.

దృష్టా హి హరయః పూర్వం మయా విపులవిక్రమాః|
వాలీ చ సహ సుగ్రీవో జాంబవంశ్చ మహాబలః||10||
నీలః సేనాపతిశ్చైవ యే చాన్యే ద్వివిదాదయః|
నైవం తేషాం గతిర్భీమాన తేజో న పరాక్రమః||11||
నమతిర్న బలోత్సాహౌ న రూపపరికల్పనమ్|
మహత్సత్త్వ మిదం జ్ఞేయం కపిరూపం వ్యవస్థితమ్||12||
ప్రయత్నం మహదాస్థాయ క్రియతా మస్య నిగ్రహః|

స|| పూర్వం మయా విపులవిక్రమాః మహాబలః వాలీ చ జాంబవంతః సుగ్రీవః సహ హరయః దృష్టా || నీలః ద్వివిదాదయః అన్యే సేనాపతిః చ తేషాం గతిః న ఏవం తేజః పరాక్రమః న|| న మతిః బలః ఉత్సాహః న రూపపరికల్పనం | ఇదం కపిరూపం వ్యవస్థితం మహత్ సత్త్వం జ్ఞేయం || మహత్ ప్రయత్నం ఆస్థాయ అస్య నిగ్రహః క్రియతాం||

" Earlier I have seen immensely powerful mighty Vanaras like Vali , Jambavan, and Sugriva. Nila Dvivida and other army generals too. They do not have his speed or valor. Not that intellect, not that strength and energy or the ability to change form at will. This great being has taken the form of a Vanara. You have to put extraordinary efforts to capture him".

కామం లోకాస్త్రయః సైంద్రాః ససురాసురమానవాః |
భవతా మగ్రతః స్థాతుం న పర్యాప్తా రణాజిరే||
తథాపి తు నయజ్ఞేన జయ మాకాంక్షతా రణే||14||
ఆత్మా రక్ష్యః ప్రయత్నేన యుద్ధసిద్దిర్హి చంచలా|

స|| స ఇంద్రాః స సురాసురమానవాః త్రయః లోకాః రణాజిరే భవతామ్ అగ్రతః స్థాతుం న పర్యాతాః కామమ్|| తథాపి తు రణే జయం ఆకాంక్షయా ప్రయత్నేన ఆత్మా రక్ష్యః | యుద్ధసిద్ధిః చంచలాః||

" Along with Indra and all Suras Asuras and Manavas there is no one in the three worlds who is competent to stand in front of him. Even so desiring victory in the battle make all efforts to protect yourself. The result of battle is uncertain".

తే స్వామి వచనం సర్వే ప్రతిగుహ్య మహౌజసః||15||
సముత్పేతుర్మహావేగా హుతాశసమతేజసః|
రథైర్మత్తైశ్చ మాతంగైర్వాజిభిశ్చ మహాజనైః||16||
శస్త్రైశ్చ వివిధైః తీక్ష్‍ణైః సర్వైశ్చోపచితా బలైః|

స|| మహౌజసః హుతాశ సమ తేజసః తే సర్వే స్వామివచనం ప్రతిగృహ్య మహావేగాః రథైః మత్తైః మాతంగైః మహాజవైః వాజిభిశ్చ తీక్ష్ణైః వివిధైః శస్త్రైః సర్వే బలైః ఉపచితాః సముత్పేతుః||

Those powerful ones, resplendent like the sacrificial fire, taking the leader's words moved together with their army of chariots , intoxicated elephants, with horses of great speed, and many kinds of sharp weapons,

తతస్తం దదృశుర్వీరా దీప్యమానం మహాకపిమ్||17||
రస్మిమంతమివోద్యంతం స్వతేజోరశ్మిమాలినమ్|
తోరణస్థం మహోత్సాహం మహాసత్త్వం మహాబలమ్||18||
మహామతిం మహావేగం మహాకాయం మహాబలమ్|
తం సమీక్ష్యైవ తే సర్వే దిక్షు సర్వాస్వవస్థితాః||19||
తైస్తైః ప్రహరణైర్భీమైరభిపేతుః తతస్తతః|

స|| తతః వీరాః స్వతేజోరస్మిమాలినం ఉద్యంతం రస్మిమంతం ఇవ దీప్యమానం తోరణస్థం మహోత్సాహం మహాసత్త్వం మహాబలం తం మహాకపిం దదృశుః|| మహామతిం మహావేగం మహాకాయం మహాబలం తం సమీక్ష్యైవ తే సర్వే సర్వా దిక్షుః తైః తైః తతః తతః భీమైః ప్రహరణైః అభిపేతుః వ్యవస్థితాః ||

Then the heroes saw Hanuman, the great Vanara the mighty intelligent being, shining by his own effulgence, rising and shining like a Sun, perched on the archway, Looking at him who is highly intelligent, speedy, mighty and is with huge form, they positioned themselves in with different fearsome weapons here and there in all directions. Then they attacked him.

తస్య పంచాయసాః తీక్ష్ణాః శితాః పీతముఖాః శరాః||20||
శిరస్యుత్పలపత్రాభా దుర్ధరేణ నిపాతితాః|
స తైః పంచభిరావిద్ధః శరైః శిరసి వానరః||21||
ఉత్పపాత నదన్ వ్యోమ్ని దిశో దశ వినాదయన్|

స||పంచ తీక్ష్ణాః శితాః పీతముఖాః ఉత్పలపత్రాభాః ఆయసాః శరాః తస్య శిరస్యు దుర్ధరేణ నిపాతితాః || సః వానరః తైః పంచభీ శరైః శిరసి ఆవిద్ధః నదన్ దశదిశః వినాదయన్ వ్యోమ్ని ఉత్పపాత||

Five arrows made of iron with powerful sharp steel shafts and polished yellow tips by Durdhara pierced his head, they were like shining like petals of lilies (for Hanuman). That Vanara hit by the five of them in the head , making a loud noise in all directions jumped up into the sky.

తతస్తు దుర్ధరో వీరః సరథః సజ్యకార్ముకః||22||
కిరణ్ శతశతైః తీక్ష్‍ణైరభిపేదే మహాబలః|
స కపిర్వారయామాస తం వ్యోమ్ని శరవర్షిణమ్||23||
సృష్టిమంతం పయోదాంతే పయోదమివ మారుతః|
అర్ధ్యమానః తతస్తేన దుర్ధరేణానిలాత్మజః||24||
చకార కథనం భూయో వ్యవర్థత చ వేగవాన్ |
సదూరం సహసోత్పత్య దుర్దరస్య రథే హరిః||25||
నిపపాత మహావేగో విద్ర్యుద్రాశిర్గిరావివ|

స|| తతః మహాబలః దుర్ధరః సరథః సజ్యకార్ముకః తీక్ష్ణైః శరశతైః కిరణ్ అభిపేదే|| స కపిః వ్యోమ్ని శరవర్షిణం తం పయోదాంతే వృష్టిమంతం పయోదం మారుతః ఇవ వారయామాస||తేన దుర్ధరేన అర్ధ్యమానః అనిలాత్మజః తతః కదనం చకార| వేగవాన్ భూయః వ్యవర్ధత|| స హరిః సహసా ఉత్పత్య మహావేగః గిరౌ విద్యుత్ రాశిః ఇవ దుర్ధరస్య రథే నిపపాత||

Then the powerful Durdhara mounted on his chariot hit him with hundreds of sharp arrows. That Vanara in the sky kept away the shower of arrows like wind keeps clouds from raining showers. Being attacked by Durdhara, the son of wind god fought the battle. Speedily he again increased his size. That Vanara having grown very fast, fell on the chariot like a lightning on a mountain.

తతః స మధితాష్టాశ్వం రథం భగ్నాక్షకూబరమ్||26||
విహాయన్యపతద్భూమౌ దుర్ధరః త్యక్త జీవితః|

స|| తతః సః మథితాష్టాశ్వం భగ్నాక్షకూబరం రథం విహాయ త్యక్తజీవితః భూమౌ న్యపతత్ ||

Then he ( Durdhara) lost the chariot with eight horses killed and the axle broken, lost his life and fell down on the ground.

తం విరూపాక్షయూపాక్షౌ దృష్ట్వా నిపతితం భువి||27||
సంజాతరోషౌ దుర్దర్షావుత్పేతతురరిందమౌ|
స తాభ్యాం సహసోత్పత్య విష్ఠితో విమలేంబరే||28||
ముద్గరాభ్యాం మహాబాహు ర్వక్షస్యభిహితః కపిః|
తయోర్వేగవతోర్వేగం వినిహత్య మహాబలః||29||
నిపపాత పునర్భూమౌ సుపర్ణ సమవిక్రమః|

స|| దుర్ధర్షౌ అరిందమౌ విరూపాక్షయూపాక్షౌ భువి నిపాతితం తం దృష్ట్వా సంజాతరోషౌ ఉత్పేతుః|| విమలే అంబరే తిష్ఠితః మహాబాహుః సః మహాకపిః తాభ్యాం సహసా ఉత్పత్య ముద్గరాభ్యాం వక్షసి అభిహితః|| మహాబలః సుపర్ణసమ విక్రమః వేగవతోః తయోః వేగం వినిహత్య పునః భూమౌ నిపపాత||

The unassailable crushers of enemies Virupaksha and Yupaksha seeing Durdhara fallen to the ground, thus enraged jumped up. The great Vanara with powerful arms having leapt and standing the sky quickly hit both of them on the chest with iron hammers. The mighty one with the speed of Suparna, while resisting again fell on the ground.

స సాలవృక్ష మాసాద్య త ముత్పాట్య చ వానరః||30||
తా వుభౌ రాక్షసౌ వీరౌ జఘాన పవనాత్మజః|
తతః తాం స్త్రీన్ హతాన్ జ్ఞాత్వా వానరేణ తరస్వినా||31||
అభిపేదే మహావేగః ప్రసహ్యా ప్రఘసో హరిం|
భాసకర్ణశ్చ సంక్రుద్ధః శూలమాదాయ వీర్యవాన్||32||

స|| వానరః సః పవనాత్మజః సాలవృక్షం ఆసాద్య తం ఉత్పాట్య తౌ ఉభౌ వీరౌ రాక్షసౌ జఘాన||తతః తరస్వినా వానరేన తాన్ త్రీన్ హతాన్ జ్ఞాత్వా ప్రఘసః మహావేగః ప్రసహ్యా అభిపేదే | వీర్యవాన్ భాసకర్ణః చ సంకృద్ధః శూలం ఆదాయ||

The Vanara, the son of wind god, seized a Sala tree. Uprooting the same, he killed the two heroes. Then knowing that the three generals have been killed by the Vanara, Praghasa who moves with great speed violently attacked. The courageous Bhasakarna too enraged brought the spear.

ఏకతః కపిశార్దూలం యశస్వినమవస్థితమ్|
పట్టిసేన శితాగ్రేణ ప్రఘసః ప్రత్యయోధయత్||33||
భాసకర్ణశ్చ శూలేన రాక్షసః కపిసత్తమమ్|
స తాభ్యాం విక్షతైర్గాత్రైరసృగ్దిగ్థ తనూరుహః||34||
అభవత్ వానరః క్రుద్ధో బాలసూర్య సమప్రభః|

స|| యశస్వినం కపిశార్దూలం ఏకతః అవస్థితం తం ప్రఘసః శితాగ్రేణ పట్టిసేన కపిసత్తమం ప్రత్యయోధయత్ భాసకర్ణః రాక్షసః శూలేన||తాభ్యాం విక్షతైః గాత్రైః అసృగ్ధితనూరుహః సః వానరః బాలసూర్యసమప్రభః కృద్ధః అభవత్||

The renowned, tiger among the Vanaras on the one side was attacked by Praghasa with sharp crowbar, Bhasakarna the Rakshasa attacked with a spear. Attacked by both of them with his body smeared with blood the Vanara shining like a rising Sun became angry.

సముత్పాట్య గిరేః శృంగం సమృగవ్యాళపాదపమ్||35||
జఘాన హనుమాన్వీరౌ రాక్షసౌ కపి కపికుఙ్జరః |
తతస్తేష్వవసన్నేషు సేనాపతిషు పంచసు||
బలం చ తదవశేషం చ నాశయామాస వానరః|||36||
అశ్వైరశ్వాన్ గజైర్నాగాన్ యోధైర్యోధాన్ రథై రథాన్|
సకపిర్నాశయామాస సహస్రాక్ష ఇవాసురాన్||37||

స|| కపికుంజరః వీరః హనుమాన్ సమృగవ్యాలపాదపమ్ గిరే శృంగం సముత్పాట్య రాక్షసౌ జఘాన|| తతః తేషు పంచసు సేనాపతిషు అవసన్నేషు వానరః తత్ అవశేషం బలం నాశయామాస|| స కపిః సహస్రాక్షః అసురాన్ ఇవ అశ్వైః అశ్వాన్ గజైః నాగాన్ యోధైః యోధాన్ రథైః రథాన్ నాసయామాస||

Hanuman, the best of Vanaras, plucked the peak of a mountain along with all animals and trees, using the same killed both the Rakshasas. After the five generals were killed , the Vanara then started to destroy the rest of the forces. Like Indra destroying the Asuras, the Vanara destroyed the horses with horses, the elephants with elephants, the warriors with warriors, the chariots with chariots.

హతైర్నాగైశ్చ తురగైర్భగ్నాక్షైశ్చ మహారథైః|
హతైశ్చ రాక్షసైర్భూమీరుద్దమార్గా సమంతతః||38||

స|| హతైః నాగైః తురగైః భగ్నాక్షైః మహారథైశ్చ హతైః రాక్షసః భూమిః సమన్తతః రుద్ధమార్గా||

With dead elephants, horse, broken chariots, and the dead Rakshasas the whole ground was filled up.

తతః కపిస్తాన్ ధ్వజినీపతీన్ రణే
నిహత్య వీరాన్ సబలాన్ సవాహనాన్|
సమీక్ష్య వీరః పరిగృహ్య తోరణం
కృతక్షణః కాల ఇవ ప్రజాక్షయే||39||

స|| తతః వీరః కపిః వీరాన్ సబలాన్ స వాహనాన్ తాన్ ధ్వజినిపతీన్ రణే నిహత్య సమీక్ష తోరణం పరిగృహ్య ప్రజాక్షయే కాలః ఇవ కృతక్షణః||

Then the hero Vanara having killed the generals along with their forces and vehicles and reviewing the same went back to the archway much like the Time bent on destroying the humanity.

Thus ends Sarga forty six of Sundarakanda of Ramayana the first poem ever composed in Sanskrit by the first poet sage Valmiki.
